Quick and Easy Comic Tutorial
Do it fast, and do it right!
Making your own comic is really quite easy, provided you have the right resources. Check out the resources section (see the Resources section on the left sidebar) for a couple of great sites for your spriting needs. Next, you're ready to start the comic. I'll probably make a graphical tutorial soon, but the text tutorial should suffice for now. This tutorial works in any graphics program.
Just follow this simple, step-by-step method.
1. Decide what style you want your comic.
2. Work on the first frame. Grab your background (you DO have a background, right?), and turn it into your frame. If you wish to border the frame, by any means do so.
---Note: I suggest you work on a comic one frame at a time.---
3. Add the various sprites to the frame via copy/paste from their sprite sheets, positioning them where you want. Make sure that if you are positioning the character behind something that's in the background (or another object), be sure you have a copy of it handy. Working in layers (in Adobe Photoshop or The Gimp) or having an open area on the side (in MS Paint) helps out a lot here.
4. Add dialogue, if any. Dialogue adds to the story, but isn't always necessary. Also note that if you have too much dialogue, you may block off characters or scenery, depending on whether or not you use speech bubbles/boxes (because it's possible to have the dialogue above or below your scene).
5. Repeat steps 2-4 for each frame.
6. Create a new file for the actual comic, and copy/paste the individual frames in the proper order.
7. Add any borders to your comic (optional)
8. And you're done! Just be sure, when you put your comic up, to CREDIT YOUR SOURCES.
